How does mentoring impact a child's future?
For Wyatt, it was regaining trust.
Big Brother Tom and Little Brother Wyatt were matched one year ago through the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program, and in a recent conversation with Wyatt's mother she shared, "This program has changed my son's mind about men. He had a challenging past with his father and struggled to trust other men because of it. Tom shows up every week and, at first, Wyatt couldn't believe it. He was so surprised that Tom kept coming back. Tom put in the work to get to know my son, showing up no matter what. Wyatt's trust has grown tremendously through this. It has been powerful to witness."
Support for our local programs has made this positive change in Wyatt possible. Alongside Wyatt, there are over 1,600 children and teens in our programs receiving impactful mentorship, providing them with opportunities to try new things and gain new experiences, but there are still over 100 children waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sisters. Studies show that children with a mentor are more likely to stay in school, graduate, and achieve lifelong success.
This time next year, we want to ask you, "Remember when you impacted a child's life for the better?" Together, we will continue to transform families, schools, and communities - one child at a time.
